Therapy

Making the impossible achievable.

The Dovecote seeks to provide an integrated therapeutic curriculum where EHCP provision is delivered alongside an academic and life skills curriculum. We aim to prepare our students at Dovecote School to lead happy, safe, independent lives and to be active members of their community.

Our Therapy Team consists of:

1 SENCO’s
1 SENCO Assistant and SpLD Teacher
2 Occupational Therapists
1 Occupational Therapy Assistant
2 Speech and Language Therapists
1 Speech and Language Assistants
1 Mental Health Practitioner
1 Play Therapist

Across the therapeutic disciplines within the Dovecote Therapy Team, we use an assessment and referrals system that enables the team to establish current presenting needs and develop an appropriate intervention strategy to support and meet the needs of each child at Dovecote School. There are clear methods of assessment that build up our understanding of each child, which include appropriate standardised and non-standardised assessments, observations and collaborative information gathering.

Dovecote School’s collaborative approach between therapeutic and educational disciplines creates an effective system where the team working with a child has a thorough understanding about each child’s needs.

Therapeutic input and interventions are underpinned by an informed evidence base and affirming practice theories that keep the needs of the child at the forefront of decision making.

The therapy team at Dovecote School play a key role in developing effective training and resources so that all staff members are equipped to effectively support our students to develop and thrive in their learning environment.

There is a wonderful sense of hope in helping young people to understand their needs and feel empowered to develop skills that enable self-regulation, learning and development in meaningful ways.
